Selective Eating Disorder
Selective eating disorder or SED means the person has an aversion to certain foods, maybe even having a phobic reaction when faced with the food in question.
This may manifest as a feeling of revulsion or even intense fear. This response might also be linked to past reactions such as seeing somebody being sick (or perhaps vomiting themselves after eating this food).
Selective eating disorder can get worse
Selective eating disorder can grow and generalise over many groups of foods and can last a lifetime.
NLP can be very effective in overcoming SED food phobias
A client of Birmingham NLP hypnotherapist had memories of her mother boiling ham on a regular basis. The unpleasant odour, experienced often enough led her to imagine what humans would smell like being boiled, it smelled to repulsive, it put her of meat for life.
Luckily we can easily survive and thrive on a vegetarian diet, but this lady also gagged at eating vegetables and fruit.
Common foods for SED
Most adults with selective eating disorder focus on fruits, vegetables meat or greasy foods, yet most have no difficulty eating processes junk foods ie crisps, chocolate, cakes ice cream ect ect.
Being selective with foods can be a life protecting response as one ‘poisoning’reaction being able to put them off completely.
Selective eating disorder can start in childhood
Many children, are wary of foods which taste bitter or are unfamiliar, and it is not surprising that adult people can have the same ability.
If the problem has grown from simply being a ‘fad’ to a level that reduces the quality of life, NLP and hypnosis can help add more variety to your diet.
