Restricted Diets and Fear of Eating Foods
Restricted diets and fear of eating certain foods, in fact being phobic towards certain foods believing you will gag and choke is a massive problem for some people.
Restricted diets can destroy relationships, even prevent ones from starting as the person suffering from the restricted diet can be embarrassed about their phobia and go to great lengths to avoid eating out in public.
Restricted diet, where did it begin?
Restricted diets, many times began in childhood. When you think about it your control over the world was very limited, yet you could refuse to eat what was placed in front of you.
Parents didn’t have an owners manual to make you eat and many years ago there was less awareness of what a healthy diet really constitutes.
I’ve had clients tell me they remember at 4 years of age when ‘Daddy’ left blaming ‘Mummy’ for sending him away and refusing to eat.
Of course guilt comes into play and sweets and junk food are dangled to tempt the child and to make up for a mixture of feelings experienced by both parents.
So sometimes a restricted diet begins here.
Restricted diets; Parents to blame then?
Restricted diets are parents to blame then? I wouldn’t say that is the case as many more factors come into play to influence our children.
You may not know that when McDonalds decided to take 2 British people to court for slandering them (supposedly) the might of McDonalds spent millions on the case and still lost on many points.
McDonalds was found guilty of targeting children relentlessly, by using what could be called ‘pester power’ of offering free toys linked to the latest cartoon character the kids were interested in.
They would spend a million pounds…a week to promote their restuarants….
Restricted diets, healthy not hip enough
Who can compete with a budget of a million pounds a week? And that is just one company.
Watch the television to see how much we promote to children, and things are much stricter these days too. Junk food and processed food makes money and has a long shelf life. Fruits, salads and vegetables do not. No-one makes big money from it.
We learn more by repetition and these adverts do get repeated…often.
